NATURE IN THE GLASS ‘To the Innermost of Jungle’

Thinking of a jungle expressed above water and underwater with Mizukusa Mist Wall 120

[To the Innermost of Jungle] In innermost parts of jungles where people are kept away, there might be a waterside world that has never been seen yet. I imagined such an unexplored world and expressed my own curiosity in this aquascape. Because the size of the aquarium tank is large in W120cm, a relatively large piece of driftwood was appropriately placed protruding to the above water. It may seem the volume of the above water section is slightly overwhelming. But the above water section and the underwater section are intertwined and kept well balance while some terrestrial plants take roots underwater or on the other hand, some stemmed plants develop leaves to the above water.

Scenes of a jungle with thriving plants created with Mizukusa Mist Wall and Terra Tape

In order to create a terrarium with terrestrial leaves of aquatic plants and epiphytes, ADA has produced products such as Wabi-Kusa Wall and System Terra 30. And the latest product is Mizukusa Mist Wall. With the Mizukusa Mist Wall, it has become possible to keep the appropriate humidity in the above water section and to install Mistflow creating a dramatic impact. And Terra Tape has been released to effectively draw water to the driftwood protruding to the above water. By combining these products with Jungle Plants and Wabi-Kusa Mat, scenes of jungles with luxuriant plants can be enjoyed.

Lagenandrato be cultivated on walls

Lagenandra meeboldiifamily lined up in the Jungle Plant series can be cultivated on a wall by attaching on mats.

A composition expressed the innermost of a jungle A: Taking advantage of the undulated shape of the driftwood, the piece of driftwood were kept standing on their own instead of leaning them on the wall. B: The overwhelming feeling is purposely created by developing the terrestrial plants toward the front, and the impression of a jungle is successfully expressed.

Wrap Terra Tape around the driftwood

Upright-stemmed ferns,Blechnum gibbum‘Silver Lady’ firmly take roots by using Terra Tape. Viny ferns and epiphytic orchids can be cultivated as well.

Philodendronsp. ‘Papua New Guinea’ is suitable for large walls

HardyPhilodendronsp. ‘Papua New Guinea’ tends to have volume, and it demonstrates its best characteristics especially on large walls. The long petioles are hidden by LagenandraandHygrophila pinnatifida.

Jungle layout changed with shapes and colors of leaves on Mizukusa Mist Wall

① Make changes withLagenandra

Although there aren’t many red colored epiphytes,Lagenandra meeboldii‘Red’ andLagenandra meeboldii‘Vinay chandra’ come in handy. A key point is to make a cluster with a few plants.

② Expression of ferns with an image of jungles

To make light reach underwater as well,Blechnum gibbum‘Silver Lady’ was chosen because of the many cuts on the leaves.Blechnum gibbum‘Silver Lady’ is one of hardy large ferns, and it matches my image of jungles.

③ Make ups and downs on the wall

Because the driftwood is standing on its own, only plants have to be used in order to make ups and downs on the wall.Philodendronsp. ‘Papua New Guinea’ is placed as an accent, andHygrophila pinnatifidais planted in a cluster.

④ Expression in the underwater section of the layout

3 types ofLagenandraare planted underwater. They are highly shade tolerant and unlikely to melt compared toCryptocoryne. However, because the impression was too dark, DOOA Tropical River Sand was used in the front area.

Leaf Patterns of Jungles

The innermost of a jungle is crowded with a wide variety of plants, and dense leaf patterns are created. Thinking of such a scene.
